The basics to make the sauce you always wanted
Combine all ingredients in a sauce pan. Simmer 5 minutes or cook in a microwave for 3 minutes. Makes about 2 cups.
To oven roast onions, cut in half and place on a non-stick cookie sheet.
Bake at 375 F. until lightly browned and starting to become translucent.

There are as many different barbeque sauces are there places where it is enjoyed. Each locality has it's own variety; a little sweeter, a little hotter, more smoke, less tomato, etc. You can adjust this sauce as your taste buds prefer, it is very tolerant and resilient.
Brown sugar may be substituted with honey, half white sugar and half molasses, maple syrup or any other favorite sweetener, including non-caloric ones for a sugar-free sauce.
